A centerpiece that’s edible? Try setting your table with this
colorful, tasty cookie tree. To re-create this fabulous
Christmas tree, you may need a special cutter set. These
cookies were made using a “Wilton”
cookie tree cutter set which has ten graduated sizes of
cutters. These can be found online or possibly in
gourmet kitchen stores.
Prepare your favorite sugar cookie recipe. Roll out the dough
to at least 1/2 inch thick. Here’s a helpful hint: Mark
a toothpick at 1/2 inch and use to measure each cookie.
Use enough flour when rolling out the dough to keep it
from sticking.
Cut out three of each size stars. Place on a cookie sheet and
bake according to your recipe. Let cool completely.

Prepare the fondant to frost the cookies. Combine 31/2 cups
powdered sugar, 1/3 cup hot water, and 1/3 cup corn
syrup. Mix until a pourable consistency is achieved.
More powdered sugar may be needed if too thin, or more
water if too thick. Add green food coloring and mix
well. Place the cookies on a cooling rack placed on top
of wax paper. Pour the frosting over the tops of the
cookies. (The run-off frosting can be used again.) |

Place the frosted cookies in the refrigerator to harden. When
you are ready to make the tree, start with a 12 inch
flat base, then stack the cookies in a staggered
fashion, starting with the largest and ending with the
smallest. Sift powdered sugar over the completed tree
and add cinnamon candies to the ends and plate.
